DRAFT SLOs and Other Requirements for Gen Ed Components
During the Fall of 2016 over 80 faculty and key staff worked in Requirement Development Committees (RDCs) to propose Student Learning Outcomes and other requirements for each of the components of the new general education curriculum. GERC is currently in the process of seeking feedback on these requirements. Schools will have the opportunity to weigh in with questions and concerns. Additionally, all faculty and key staff will receive individual feedback surveys. GERC will share feedback from the SEU community with the appropriate RDC groups and, when appropriate, ask for revisions. The revised SLOs and other requirements will then go to Curriculum Committee and Academic Council.
DRAFTS of the requirements for each curriculum component are available here: DRAFT General Education Curriculum Component SLOs and Other Requirements
Spring 2016 Update
During the Fall 2015 the Curriculum Models Group reviewed the feedback from the August 2015 General Faculty Meeting as well as the other feedback gathered from St. Edward’s University students, alumni, faculty and staff during the renewal process. Specifically, committee members considered feedback on the 3 sample models and used it to shape a single Proposed Curriculum Model.
This model is being presented to SEU faculty in school meetings during the month of January. Following these presentations, all SEU faculty and key staff members will be able to submit feedback in a February straw poll. GERC will consider this feedback and address major concerns, then present a curriculum model for formal Senate vote in approximately March 2016.
Events for the Week of August 17, 2015
The General Education Renewal Committee (GERC) will discuss the current status of general education revision at SEU and share the 3 curriculum models developed by the Curriculum Models Group with the faculty at Tuesday’s General Faculty Meeting (August 18th, 2-4 pm, Mabee Ballroom). Faculty feedback will be collected, shared on the General Education Curriculum Renewal web site, and used by the Curriculum Models Group to develop a single curriculum in FA15. Please join us and share your input!
Join GERC members, Cory Lock, Chad Long, Lynn Rudloff, Michael Saclolo for “General Education Revision: A Roundtable Conversation” at the SEU Teaching Symposium on Thursday, August 20th from 12:15-1:15 in John Brooks Williams South. This roundtable provides an informal forum for further discussion of the general education curriculum models presented at the General Faculty Meeting on Tuesday, August 18th. We will focus on the elements of a liberal arts education and on curriculum that reflects the St. Edward’s University identity, mission, and essential learning outcomes. The leaders of the groups that developed the curriculum models will be present to answer questions about their specific elements. We hope to promote discussion among all attendees.
