Fulbright Blog Post

For my Fulbright Booklet I decided that I wanted to use bright colors and also the concept of text blocking to show when a different kind of information is presented. I chose to color the pages based on the information that was on the page, so all of the information that went together would be colored with the same color page. My color palette embraces strong colors in order to enforce the ideas of World Challenges and their importance. I also came up with some symbols that represent the different challenges and labeled the events that corresponded with it.

I still am not completely happy with my cover I think that its plain, but I couldn’t find a way to incorporate the text blocking idea on my cover in a cohesive way. The problems I faced were that at first I wanted to layout every page individually, but I realized that I needed to first put down all the information in the booklet and then worry about designing. The timeline I felt was long enough but that I just had to work out what was most important and work on those things first so that I would have the book done on time. Overall I liked the ideas that I chose to follow, but I wish that I could have used a different size booklet and more pages so that the book could have more breathing room.

Weather Report

The weather report project required for you to use the idea of LATCH to bring forth information on the four cities you chose. I decided to use location, hierarchy, and category as my LATCH principles. My focus was to make sure the animation was clean looking and that the information was easily readable. I think that my project turned out well, but I think that I could have pushed myself in creativity to make it more interesting. I wanted the theme of my animation to be about going on an adventure now that flying cars are invented, so I used those elements in the opening slide as well as in some of my audio.

Shelter Reflection 2- Foundation Art and Design

?????????????????????????????? Maasai_shelter

My second external source are these two pictures of a basic hut shelter and a castle built in England. I decide that I wanted to compare these two pictures of shelters and how they differed from each other. In the first picture you can see this huge castle that I’m sure contains many bedroom a kitchen, living rooms etc. The first shelter pictures is an example of recreational living. It is not necessary to have some much space and yet people dream about living in a house this big. It is a shelter but a very complex one. The second picture you can see that this hut is very basic and may contain one single living space. This shelter is very minimal and basic but does the same job the castle does. These shelters are very different from each other but do a lot of the same things. Both are made to protect from harm and to provide comfort. I think that although one may seem more elegant that the other in the situation people in third world countries are in all they want is something that can give them their basic needs of shelter. A shelter although seen different from many people is a place were you can have the basic need of safety.

Shelter Reflection 1- Foundation Art and Design

For my first external source, I chose an article about homelessness in Utah. In this article it talks about how hard it is for homeless people to get back on their feet and their solution for this was providing homeless people with a home or permeant shelter. It describes how homeless people immediately become more successful. Providing them with a home really gives them security and is more motivating for them so they can start looking for jobs to make money. I thought this article was a really good article that related to the shelter project, because it shows that a shelter to someone is what brings comfort. Just getting the basic necessity of feeling safe is very important when having a shelter. It gave these people structure and hope. Although, most of us take our homes for granted we don realize how important it is and how lucky we are to have that structure. This article really opened my eyes to how something so basic as a home gives homeless people the push and comfort they need in order to get back on their feet.

Blog Post #13 Part 2 -1st Year Seminar

The faculty presentations were really awesome i liked seeing different professors artwork. I thought it was nice to see the different variety of jobs all the professors had. The presentation that i found the most interesting was the one about the man who made commercial and film sets. I am interested in learning more about film and how they are made and so i found it really awesome that we got to get kind of an inside look on what they do to make sets for different kinds of production. I thought that the presentations were helpful in being able to see what professors do outside of teaching and also what alumni graduates are doing as jobs.
