Blog Post #7 Part 2- 1st Year Seminar

On my Time Tracker Sheet i noticed that my schedule hasn’t really changed that much the only thing that is really different from my first is that I’m not sleeping as much as before, although I’m not sleeping as much i am still sleeping about seven hours. I have been able to add more meals into my day since i was not eating a lot of the days until dinner. I still spend about the same amount of time on homework and doing other miscellaneous things. Overall I feel that I am still managing my time pretty well but that I need to try to get back on my regular sleep schedule and keep trying to find time to eat meal regularly.

All Media Over Us Blog- Visual Studies I

All media over us was a very interesting article and I liked how I talked about how different generations have different views. I took that the use of media is very important, people rely a lot on vision and so structure is important, and lastly that different generation and cultures and drawn to different things.

In the article it talks about how technology influences our society today, I think that this is true and that in order to get people’s attention the most successful way would be to do it through media. I think that media is now a huge part of a majority of peoples lives in the world today. Technology is how information gets around from place to place very quickly. Without technology we wouldn’t be able to communicate to others as easily as we do now.

This article also talks about how heavily we rely on vision, and how if we cant see we don’t trust in ideas as much. I think that this is very true and since we started learning we were taught to rely on our vision, so this is a very important sense to connect with. I think that we need to make sure that we are able to gain positive attention through vision because that is how people decide whether or not they like something. Visual structure is very important, because its what the viewers connect with and its all about how you present your work.

Lastly, the article talks about culture and how it affects how we make our artwork. In order for us to connect with our audience it is important to take the culture of your viewers into consideration. They compared different generation and I think it is true how younger people are more open to experimentation with their work because that is how they set themselves apart. Unlike older generations who focused on simplicity, we now focus a lot on details.

Blog Post # 6 Part 1- 1st Year Seminar

My greatest skill in Visual Studies is that I am already comfortable with a camera and know how to take good pictures, so I don’t have to worry about learning basics. For greater success in this course I need to start experimenting more with my camera and learning how to rely on my camera instead of Photoshop. My greatest skill in Basic Math is that I already took college algebra in high school so I know all the basics, so since I am in basic math it is all stuff I already know. For greater success in this course I need to just make sure that I continue doing my work at the speed I am so I don’t have to worry about being to ahead or behind. My greatest skill Rhetoric and Composition is that once I start writing I am generally pretty quick at getting my thoughts and ideas on paper. For better success I need to get a lot more help with correcting my grammatical errors. My greatest skill in Political Controversies is that I am very interested in learning about the government, so it is easy for me to pay attention. For better success in this course I need to pay better attention to details, so when I take the quizzes I’m more prepared.

My computer skills include Photoshop, Basic Word, Spreadsheets, and some Bridge. I still need to learn how to gain more Photoshop skills, and also get more in depth skills with bridge and lightroom.

My greatest strengths as a researcher and writer is that I am very good and expressing my ideas and writing papers in a quick manner. I need to work on grammatical errors such as spelling and sentence structure, also paragraph structure.

I learn best and accomplish most when I study with other people and also when I am able to get help especially when writing papers. My action plan for my Rhetoric and Composition class is:

  • Go to the writing center
  • Have multiple people revise my paper
  • Start writing earlier so I have more time to correct errors
  • Re-read my paper more than twice
  • Start and finish paper on same day, but re look the day after so you have time to think about it.
  • Search for more interesting words to use
  • Make my writing clear and do the best and saying what I need to say
  • Try not to fluff too much
  • Make multiple theses so that I can choose which one sounds best.
  • Make sure my conclusion includes all my main points

Blog Post #5- 1st Year Seminar Visual Studies

Randy Scott Salvin is a contemporary artist that I find very inspirational, because he is not only a photographer but also a cinematographer. His photography work consists of alternative perspectives of landscapes. The way that he creates his images is by taking a 360 panorama of his scene. He has also done a portfolio called NYC Unplugged, which are long exposures of the streets of New York City. His most known work are the music videos, and commercials he filmed for the Tribeca Film Festival. I enjoy his work, because I really like when artists do things that are alternative processes. I think that he does a good job at setting himself apart from other landscape artists by making them in a alternative way. I also really appreciate his cinematography work, because I would also like to learn more about producing and directing films although I am a photo major. Below are some of his photo’s from his alternative perspectives and NYC Unplugged.
