Yet again wondering out onto the trails of Blunn Creek today, I noticed even more life surrounding me than last month. There is more biodiversity developing amongst the bundles of trees as the weather gets warmer which is getting more obvious each month of observation. Now that it is in full spring time, the beautiful Texas state flower is blooming what seems like everywhere it can find a spot to grow even next to a cactus. It was a little more humid than previous days as well as windy, but still a very pleasant day outside. Butterflies and bees fluttering around my head and the trees’ branches while the scurrying animals are doing their own daily activities on the ground. What I saw today is definitely what people would first imagine in their head as they heard the word “nature” because of how green the plants and trees have gotten as well as all of the sounds and overall visual attractiveness of the reserve. Because of how this time of the year the true beauty of nature is brought out for us to see, Aldo Leopold expresses the same appreciation as current tree-huggers have for plants through the statement: “Our ability to perceive quality in nature begins, as in art, with the pretty. It expands through successive stages of the beautiful to values as yet uncaptured by language.”
