Esparza – February

Yet again, I had an adventure walking through Blunn Creek observing how nature has grown throughout this past month. It was warmer and sunnier than the last time I ventured through the trails which is a good sign as it is about to be spring. Regardless of the countless number of small trees still having the brown coloring, much more of the surroundings seem to be gaining their greet coat back. The environment initially appeared to have more life and proved to be true because of the numerous animals I saw and heard scurrying around as I was passing by. A lizard, a couple butterflies, a squirrel and various flying insects made an appearance in my journey this time showing me they were ready for this nature preserve to be green again as well. The color contrast between the vibrant blue sky and the developing green color throughout the area presented a sense of achievement for making it through the harsh and cold winter. It’s obvious that the nature preserve is making changes. “On motionless wing they emerge from the lifting mists, sweep a final arc of sky and settle in clangorous descending spirals to their feeding grounds. A new day has begun” in Blunn Creek today on the last day of February (Leopold); winter is on it’s final round and spring is moving in as the new lifestyle for now.
