  • You can log in with your St. Edward’s Gmail if you want to be able to save articles to the database itself.

ICPSR (Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research)

  • Advances and expands social and behavioral research, by providing data stewardship and a data archive, including specialized collections in education and criminal justice.
  • You can explore data by category (e.g., Child and Family Data Archive, etc.)
  • Discover data related literature (click on “data related publications”)
    • If you click on this, you can see searching tips 
  • You can also search a broad topic in the search bar and then narrow it down using the filters on the left hand side of the screen
    • Filters include data type, collection method, time period, thematic collection, etc. 

Social Science Premium Collection

  • Provides abstracts as well as full articles on a variety of topics in the social sciences. 
  • The database automatically opens to the advanced search. If you want to use the basic search tool, you can click “Social Science Premium Collection” and it will pop up. 
  • In the basic search you can limit your search to full text articles or peer reviewed articles. 
  • If you want to use the advanced search, you can search by publication date, publication company, subject headings, source type (i.e., book, magazine, scholarly journal), and language.

  • Includes a broad range of topics from the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Taylor & Francis Social Science and Humanities Library

  • Provides an excellent foundation for research and teaching in these fields: Arts & Humanities; Criminology; Media, Cultural & Communication Studies; Mental Health & Social Care; Politics, International Relations & Area Studies; Psychology; Sociology & Related Disciplines
  • On the main page, you can scroll down and browse different categories such as education, law, etc. 
  • If you click on “advanced search”, you can see search tips as well as narrow down you search using boolean operators, publication years, and by citation

Project Muse Journals and Books

  • Search e-books on topics such as Political Science, Controversial Issues, Global Studies, etc. 
  • After you search a broad topic (i.e., history), you can narrow your search using Boolean Operators, content type, publisher, Journal, Author Name, Research Area, etc. 

Social Explorer

  • Visualize and interact with data, create maps, charts, and reports
  • Explore built-in data indicators related to demography, economy, health, politics, environment, crime and more
  • You can also add in your own data
  • There are many teaching tools for professors to use in their courses
