  • The experience and impact of African Americans as recorded by the news media from 1976 to the present.
  • If you scroll down on the main webpage, you can select a broad time period (Late 20th Century or Early 21st Century) on the suggested search tab.
    • You can then further break down categories (e.g., Government, Court Decisions, etc)
  • If you click on “More Search Options” below the search bar, you can search using terms, boolean operators, date ranges, or geographical location. 
  • If you make an account on the database, you will be able to create a folder in which you can save articles, as well as searches.

Contemporary Women’s Issues OneFile

  • Find timely and historically relevant content on issues that influence women’s lives across the globe 
  • If you sign in with your St. Edwards email address, you will be able to see search history, which could be helpful if you are doing research projects. 
  • Search tools include topic finder, Subject Guide Search, and publication search
    • In the Topic Finder, you can input keywords and the database will generate a wheel of topics relating to those keywords. 
    • In the subject guide search you can search by subject as well as narrow your search to publication date, peer reviewed journals, and full text articles.

Archives of Sexuality and Gender

  • collection of primary sources for the historical study of sex, sexuality, and gender
  • Topics available include gay rights and health, including the worldwide impact of AIDS, materials tracing LGBTQ activism, women’s rights, and more.
  • If you click on “collections” you can see all the resources for a specific topic 
  • If you click on “publications” you can browse by publication, the country (or state or city) in which a resource was published, as well as the publication language. 
  • Clicking on “learning center” allows you to look at more browsing tips and shows the history and context of the archive. 
  • If you click on term frequency, you can search for a particular term and see all the articles that mention that term by publication year. 
  • To find a topic, in the “topic finder”, you can input keywords and the database will generate a wheel of topics relating to those keywords. 

Child Welfare Information Gateway

  • The site’s main features are electronic publications, including resource guides and assessment tools that emphasize preservation and support of families.
  • The topics tab lets you browse by topic including things such as child abuse and neglect, Adoption, etc.
    • You can then click on a subtopic (i.e., Laws Related to Adoption) in order to see more resources. 
  • In the publications tab, you can browse by title or topic
  • The “more resources” tab allows you to see other databases and websites that may be helpful. 
  • You can also find help for a personal situation, or report child abuse and neglect.
