The purpose of this project was to design a zine featuring a personal truism, and have it be printed on the Risograph printer. As this is a Riso project we were only allowed to use two colors due to the nature of the Riso printer. The personal truism I used for this zine is “I am smart, I am stupid, I am me”. This truism comes from feelings I struggle with on occasion. For example in many cases I know that I am intelligent at least in a bookish since, but on an interpersonal level I am often left feeling stupid for missing obvious social cues. The zine is split into the smart spread and the stupid spread, with a melding of the two in the middle. On the smart side of things I made use of geometric shapes, straight lines, and an open eye image, on the other hand the stupid spread makes use of more rounded shapes, wild lines, and a closed eye motif. The melding of the two features elements of both along with the phrase “I am me”.
