The Conceptual age Reflection

This section of the book “a Whole new Mind” Daniel H. Pink theorizes that the age of information that we are currently experiencing is on the out and out. He proposes that the next age will be one of conceptualization and empathy. He provides the evidence that the jump from the industrial age to the information age was marked by the jump from the reliance on the strength of the working man to the reliance on the mental prowess of left brain thinkers. That is to say he noticed that in our current age we value the ability to crunch numbers and analyze trends more than the fortitude of the assembly line worker as we did in days of yore. Finally he notes that he is beginning to notice another shift away from cold mathematics towards the so called right brain thinking which focuses more on the conceptual, artistic, and empathy. He postulates that when this shift gains enough traction we will enter into the conceptual age where conceptual thinkers and empathizers will be in higher demand as their talents are less easily out sourced and not easily emulated by machines.

Personally I think that there is a very good chance that this may actually be in the works, the rise of the concept age that is. However I think that the estimate is a little off. I see a revolution like this coming into full swing in maybe 25-75 years instead of the eminent shift that Mr. Pink seemed to think was immanent a few years ago.
