GDES 1 Mapping project decisions

For this portion of the maps assignment we were tasked with creating a flow chart style of map. To do this I chose to make my map a personal exploration of my options for a potential study abroad. This turned out to be a good idea as there are several factors and decisions to make when thinking about a study abroad. Since I was going to have to find some way of representing several countries on the map, I came up with a few flag graphic templates, and then using a template created a simple but sophisticated flag for each country. Also, in order to make a more sophisticated flowing structure I designed each node as a sort of tag connected to other tags by interconnecting pipes. However this structure prevented a linear style of flowchart. To counteract this I devised a point system based off of criteria I would consider important, and then tallied each country by score to glean the top 3 countries. I think the simple yet sophisticated styles, and the tag and pipe system, gives the map a bouncy, vibrant feeling which I find fitting for this subject matter since the prospect of travel is very exciting.
