Many articles have been written about the AU forces driving back Al Shabaab and reclaiming portions of Somalia from the terrorist group.  However, another viewpoint that speaks to a more fundamental problem is explained in the economist article. New Offensive in Somalia The report discusses how the president is no longer seen as effective and that there is still no meaningful consensus on how to get the government back into shape.  The author argues that the narrative of Somalia’s progress is not in line with the realities therein.  It will be interesting to watch events unfold to see whether or not international and local leaders can change the course of government in Somalia or if it will fall back into civil war and violence at the hands of Al Shabaab or other terrorist groups.
