ARTFL

  • Includes a large collection of digitized French resources
  • Includes resources ranging from classic works of French literature to various kinds of non-fiction prose and technical writing from the 12th to the 20th century.
  • If you click on “PhiloLogic” on the upper part of the screen, you can see a guided walkthrough of how to use the platform itself. 
  • On the left side of the screen, you can click on and browse featured databases 
  • ARTFL- FRANTEXT is the main database, so we’ll do a brief walkthrough on how to use that:
    • Clicking on “Search ARTFL-FRANTEXT” will automatically take you to a page where you can browse by publication year and author. On this page, you will also see a search bar if where you can search by keyword
      • There is also a question mark by the search bar where you can search tips 
    • If you click on “Concordance” you can filter resources by Author, Title, Genre, or Year (exact or range). 
    • If you click on the “time series” tab you can search by Author, Title, and Genre but you can also input a date range for your search.

Informe Académico OneFile

  • Includes full-text Spanish- and Portuguese-language scholarly journals and magazines from and about Latin America.
  • If you sign in with your St. Edwards email address, you will be able to see search history, which could be helpful if you are doing research projects. 
  • Search tools include topic finder, Subject Guide Search, and publication search
    • In the Topic Finder, you can input keywords and the database will generate a wheel of topics relating to those keywords. 
    • In the subject guide search you can search by subject as well as narrow your search to publication date, peer reviewed journals, and full text articles. 
    • In the publication search section you can search for specific publications as well as narrow your search by date, peer reviewed journals, type of publication, etc.

Loeb Classical Library

  • A virtual library of Greek and Latin literature: Has resources ranging from epics, to poetry, to philosophy and more. 
  • If you click on the “browse” tab in the upper left hand corner, you can browse by Authors, Greek Works, Latin Works, or the LOEB library itself. 
  • You can also search by keywords in the search bar, or use the advanced search.
    • In the advanced search, you can narrow your topic by author title, editor, verse, etc. 
    • You can also narrow your search by time period (i.e., 800 BC -700 BC). 
  • On the right hand side of the advanced search page, you can also view search tips. 
  • Finally, if you click on “About the Library” you can see information about the database itself including founder information, logo, typography, etc.
