  3. We are happy to welcome students from Dr. Liezel Massyn’s class at The University of the Free State in South Africa for this week’s discussion. We will have an asynchronous discussion with them. More information will follow.  By 2/18 @ midnight, In the designated forum, post at least one question for the University of Free State students on current South Africa, a personality, or the South African Revolution of 1994.
  4. By February 20 th at midnight, post answers to two questions of your choice on the study guide.
  5. By  February 24th@ noon, post  at least one comment  to 2 different Free State student’s postings.  If you post a third comment to a Free State student from Feb 25th- March 1st at midnight, you can earn up to 1 bonus point.

  4. Examine the roles of the African National Congress (ANC) and Nelson Mandela in the South Africa Revolution. What do you believe is Mandela’s most important legacy?
  5. Analyze the causes and effects of the 1976 Soweto Uprisings.
  6. Assess how economic sanctions affected the situation in South Africa.
  7. How do De Fronzo’s “five factors” apply to the South African revolution?
  8. Analyze the role of F.W. de Klerk in ending apartheid.
  9. Examine the improvements that South Africa has made since the end of apartheid.
  10. Analyze how globalization affected South Africa and the South African revolution.
  11. Examine the major problems that South Africa confronts today.
