Object Lesson (matchbook) – Image Methodology

For this Image Methodology project we were tasked with designing a matchbook to be used hypothetically as a prop in a movie that we chose. I chose La La Land which is about a up and coming actress who meets a jazz player and bond over jazz as they try to reach and achieve their dreams. We started off by making mood boards to set the tone of our matchbook. There was not really a lot of color in the movie because it mainly takes place in the Jazz players apartment, I wanted to keep the color very minimal. Which is why I went with maroon for the text, and added a cardboard texture to the front. I also picked the script font from my mood board, because it reminded me of a jazz restaurant or bar. This matchbook would hypothetically be placed in The Lighthouse Cafe which is the jazz bar that the actress and jazz player bond. I created the saxophone icon, and added small things like the year the the bar has been in business since, and the bar’s website to give a real life prop image.
