Join us in ARTS 113 at 5:30 p.m. for the visiting artist lecture by Joe Meiser, followed by an opening reception of his exhibition Stories of Creation, Destruction, and Deliberation in the Fine Arts Gallery from 6:30-8 p.m.
Stories of Creation, Destruction, and Deliberation is an exhibition by Joe Meiser that examines existential questions related to consciousness, artificial intelligence, and the nature of human belief. It also looks at how contemporary technologies have changed the way we think about death, and the conflicting narratives about mortality offered by science and religion. Appropriate to this group of topics, Meiser used a CAD program for the design and fabrication of many of the works in this exhibition, creating an interesting dynamic between the origin and content of the projects, and highlighting Meiser’s assertion that the human condition is steeped in paradox.
