Event 4: Poetry Slam in Jo’s Coffee ________________________________________________________________________

Date: October 27 ___________________________

Reflection on experience:

This was very passionate what these brave women did at this poetry slam. Various women talked about how they were sexually assaulted or harassed when they were younger. I don’t even think I had the courage to stand in front of that many people. The audience was very supportive of these women as they were cheered on to keep performing.

Step D Blog Reflection

I think I really enjoyed this project overall. We had to think critically about the subject to learn deeper about the problems. There was solid teamwork in my group so everyone knew what was going on. I know a lot more about the challenges that Austin faces not only as a city but also as a community. We had to ask ourselves what was really going on with poverty. Poverty here in Austin turns out to be caused by many different other problems within the community, things like healthcare, housing, and lack of food were some of the other problems we had to work though to get to poverty. Personally I think this class was a success, I learned a lot about how to conduct well thought out research and reach out to the community for information. I also learned about my teammates, as they are a great bunch of people who I can tell really do care about the community. This class has taught me so much about how to interact with Austin and with the people at my school. I am so grateful for the experiences that I have learned though this class and I hope I can take something similar ion the future.

Blog Reflection

  1. We as a group have actually made some significant progress on what we are going to do for our presentation. We talked about how we are going to present our wicked problem in December. We have a solid plan of how our table will be set up and what type of information goes where. The only thing for us to really figure out is the contents of what that information will be and plugin it into our setup so everything works smoothly.
  2. I think we have an amazing image of what our project is going to look like, really its all about the execution now. As long as each member does their share of information grabbing then it should be a piece of cake to set up everything else. I gained new insights of what poverty really looks like in Austin and how it can effect other problems around it. A big question when discussing poverty is obviously how to solve it and get as many people as we can out of poverty. I feel like we are doing a great job as a team trying to figure out and research this wicked problem. I really hope that I can continue to research more problems in the future that capture my specific interests.

Photography Seminar Response

This seminar expressed the true importance of life. What he did is try to paint a picture of life itself onto a canvas. He also stressed the importance of the feeling of how the picture makes you in relation into real life. He does not paint his photos in real life. Photoshop is used to achieve the artwork that he does. Something as sophisticated cannot be record onto a live canvas and we should all fell privileged to have the technology that we do in our lives. When he talked about the first photograph ever taken he also mentioned how the goal was to perfectly take an image straight from real life instead of a humans interpretation of it. Above all else his artwork inspires me to be happy. I’m inspired to look at life the way it is and to lurk deeper into the emotion of what is happening around me. Life is precious as he says thought the seminar, its important to not take advantage of what we have because there will always be new exciting discovers down the road ahead. being happy is my ultimate goal of life no matter what happens and how it effects me I will always remember to be happy.

Week 3 Blog Reflection

Austin CAN Presentation on Sept 12

a. The most interesting element that I think was that how much we can really make a change to our community, I wasn’t sure of how dramatic our school could make, but now i’m positive that we can make a change that is noteworthy to the city and maybe even be gratified for it.

b. I was quite supersized at the difference in racial bias throughout the presentation; I had no idea that other races had a disproportional amount so significant to one another.

c. Its important to handle local problems because not only will it effect the community in a positive way, but it will also help us understand problems in other city’s because of how similar we are. So we can use the knowledge that we discover here to help other places in the United States, and in some cases, other country’s.
