The symbol project started with picking an “umbrella word” or concept that can be made into various traced objects symbols, stylized symbols and non-objective symbols. I chose the word Morning as in “the period of time between midnight and noon”. The things that first came to my mind were the parts of my morning routine, coffee, alarm clock, breakfast food. The alarm clock idea reminded me of roosters crowing in the morning. Then I thought about things in my bed. I have a sleeping mask that I never use, but I knew it was a classic item used for sleeping.

I wanted to use this symbol but I had to make sure it symbolized “waking up in the morning”, and not “sleep”. This is when the hybridization process began. I combined the eyes with the sleeping mask to
