This website is sponsored by the government funded NASA website, that is specifically aimed towards elementary school aged students. The website focuses it’s teaching to key points such as: weather & climate, air, ocean, fresh water, carbon travels, energy, plants and animals, technology and Big Questions about the Earth. The goal of the website is to get kids active and interested in the subject of Earth Science from a fun perspective. The website is easy to navigate for all ages and safe for all students.

Instructional Use:

5th graders who are studying Earth Science will be able to pick one topic that the website offers and using construction paper create their own webpage for the topic. The web page will highlight the information they learned from Climate Kids. This allows students to think outside the box in presenting the information they learned about Earth Science; instead of just writing a report they will create a webpage that is fun and creative.

  1. Great find! This website is so colorful, entertaining, and seems very engaging for students. This website not only seems like a learning tool for fifth graders, but for students of all ages. I think your instructional use is very creative because it incorporates students designing their own webpage with the information they learned. The activity incorporates both concepts of technology and researching information! You have also provided great information within the summary section of your post, specifically what the website holds.

  2. This would have been a website that I would have loved as an elementary student! I also love that it is earth science based because students don’t often get to explore earth science in depth. I’m also a huge fan of NASA. Nice, concise summary. Thank you for sharing!

  3. What a fun website! I want to sit and investigate it for hours. It seems very educational and helpful for the students.
I think it is really creative that you are using a digital text while also having your students create their own mock digital texts on construction paper! I also like that you are allowing differentiated information!
Have you thought about allowing them to actually create a web page on the computer?
