VISU 1311 Post # 9

Radio Lab: Beyond Time was a interesting and informative podcast dealing with people’s different perception of time and what it is. Probably the most interesting part of the podcast was the interview with the artist that made it  point to live his life completely in the past and ignore the present. Just by listening to him speak he seemed to be a very eccentric person. His theory of time was interesting. He believed that everything we do is a permanent fixture in time and he completely wrote off the belief that time is linear as something that would end up with your death. I felt like his reaction to this belief was pretty strong, especially it being the most common belief of the human race, but after listening to his talk I realized that what he said was true. If we believe that time is linear then we live our lives in a set order, but if we live our lives under the belief of the artist then we can pick and choose what period of time we want to live in. The podcast goes on to talk about Einstein and his theory on time. I found this part of the podcast informative being that I don’t know much about Einstein beyond his famous equation for the speed of light. I liked the way Einstein explained his epiphany of how time can be beat. By moving faster than the speed of light we can end up on different times. The multiple universes created based on our different choices was something I was slightly familiar with. This theory is heavily used in comic books. In terms of sequence and the final project this podcast gives insight on how time passes and on how our lives are made up of events that come together to form a complete sequence that we can call our life story.
