SEMINAR VISU: BLOG #3

Research Blog Post: Lauren Hom

Lauren Hom is a graphic designer, who graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She works with bright colors and makes fun work, such as this lettering for a campaign.

I find myself attracted towards advertising, which is why I studied graphic design. However, I love typography and imagine myself using it for creating ads. Lauren Hom’s work inspires me not only because she creates ad campaigns, but also she makes use of typography in them. Moreover, the usage of bright colors really captures your eyes towards the work.

She also did this magazine cover by adding the lettering and illustration. Not only is her work visually appealing but I believe she manages to balance what she includes. I see myself as a minimalist creative person, and I wish my work to be the same. This doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t like creating big pieces of art, but instead less is more sometimes. I wish that in the future I could first get a job with an advertising agency in order to gain more experience. Although, once I gain enough experience I want to work as freelancer and have my own agency. This way I would have much more liberty and opportunities to grow as a designer. This is something I admire from Lauren Hom, since as mentioned in this interview, this is exactly what she did after deciding to quit her job at a big advertising agency.
