This week, having more time I decided to build upon my theme of expressing ones ideas, beliefs, and opinions (will be referred to as thoughts from now forward). Last week I brought to you a small collection of signs I found while walking along South Congress. When I think about the signs, graffiti, art, and other expressions of thought I see in the world I often think about whom is expressing them. As I walked down the prolific South Congress Avenue this week I noticed the profound number of tags, signatures, and name placement. This is a concept that goes back to ancient Egypt that has survived through the ages of man. Whether it is as claims of ownership or a way to immortalize oneself or perhaps to simply be know to those in the world around us – we love to put our names on the creations and structures around us.

Sometimes however, we like to use tagging to catch the eye. Call it a quick, perhaps even esoteric, method of expressing one’s thoughts. In this selection of photos I have collected a small group of tags up and down the middle section of our designated region of South Congress. Some of these tags are names and groups – others are these small glimpses at someones thoughts or even feelings.

What was the last thing you put your name on? Or, have you put your work out for the public eye? What did it mean to you?
