For our Graphic Design II class, we had to translate a new experience into a memento of the place, mine took the form of temporary tattoos. The packaging was also important for this project, and I chose to do a clean design that reflected my style. One of the things I often do with my projects is create my own fonts. Typefaces and what they reflect are very important to me, and I enjoy designing them to fit what I am doing at the moment. The tattoos represent two places: Uncommon Objects, which I had been before, and the patio porch of Magnolia’s Cafe, which I didn’t know existed until this year. The tattoos have each a bit of different design and style, to fit both places. I chose to create iconic tattoos of things you can see in both places, such as the “Sorry, we’re open” sign at Magnolia’s or the famous Bunny-riding Cowboy sign atop the store.
This has been one of my favorite projects. I feel there’s a specific style in which I design most things, and it can be seen here. This project has made me grow both intellectually and in skills.
