Freshmen are taking sustainability out of the classroom and into the community. The Freshman Seminar course “Becoming Ecoliterate: Sustainability and Austin” examines the importance of place, the human role in the environment, and actions that foster sustainability in our community.
To experience sustainability in the community, students joined a scavenger hunt up and down South Congress and will soon be taking bikes and scooters to Zilker Park, with a stop at Eliza Springs and, for the brave, a jump in Barton Springs pool! Guest speakers and sustainability experts, including Cristina Bordin, St. Edward’s Sustainability Coordinator, help connect students to on-campus activities such as Tree Campus USA and the greenhouse gas inventory.
As part of the course, students join community events and you can get outside with them this Saturday, October 20. Wild Basin Preserve is hosting Stewardship Day from 8:30 am-12:00 pm. Help maintain the preserve and join fun pop-up projects!
