Visual Studies Professor’s Art Installation Focuses on Consumer Culture, Waste

Hollis Hammonds, Associate Professor and Chair of Visual Studies, exhibited an art installation earlier this year called wasteland/wonderland to tackle ideas of consumer culture, waste, natural disasters, and the value of possessions. Most of her materials “are discarded items, broken chairs, other people’s junk” that she repurposed to create pieces like her “tornado of trash” at the center of the exhibit. Click here to view the entire exhibit and to learn more about her creative process.
