Meet the Next Two St. Edward’s Sustainability Champions: Abel Salazar and Lisa Kirkpatrick

We’d like to introduce you to our next two Sustainability Champions: Abel Salazar and Lisa Kirkpatrick! Every two weeks, we will be revealing two more champions, so please visit the page and keep your eyes out in Horizon for the newest pair. Help us give a big thanks to these eco-friendly folks! And let them inspire you to become more sustainable.

Abel Salazar, Technical Support Analyst: Your interest in cost savings and sustainability put you in the perfect position to lead the 2009-2010 project testing the performance of recycled paper and toner against new. Because of your personal investment and leadership, St. Edward’s switched to 30 percent recycled paper across campus and to refilled toners in computer labs. Thanks for helping St. Edward’s set a sustainable example for campuses nationwide.

Lisa Kirkpatrick, Associate VP for Student Affairs; Dean of Students: You and your family take the notion of a sustainable home to the next level! Between organic pest control and gardening, to rain water collection, and some serious composting, you’ve got it all covered. Your husband even built a bee hive and is learning how to relocate displaced hives and swarms from around your neighborhood, which encourages natural fruit and vegetable pollination. Keep up the great work!
