New Compact Fluorescent Lights Improve Recreation Center Energy Efficiency

The Facilities staff at St. Edward’s University recently replaced the overhead lights at the pool area in the Recreation and Convocation Center building. The pool previously had 14 metal halide lamps installed. These were replaced by more energy-efficient compact fluorescent lamps. The metal halides would typically run at 5600 watts per day while the 55W CFLs could perform equally at 770 watts per day.  Our Facilities staff has provided a great example of a simple change that can have immediate energy efficiency savings. In addition to saving energy and mitigating carbon emissions released through energy production, this simple switch will save the university over $1200 per year!
