Reflection Post

Our group went to downtown austin at 7th street, and each one of us interviewed a homeless, there was this particular homeless who really opened my eyes and just made me realize how not every homeless is lazy, addictive to drugs, sex offender, etc. There are a lot of humble homeless who are trying to get out of the hole, but there is many obstacles that hold them to get out. Their life is very difficult to live, the city of Austin doesn’t provide the help that these homeless people need, its more than just providing food, shelter, clothes. The homeless guy we interviewed mention that the system of shelter works by being picky, let me elaborate on that. So there is a large list where homeless people insert there name and that list is to apply for housing but the problem is that the shelter picks only a certain amount of people for example if 1,000 homeless apply about only 80 homeless get housing, so that homeless that we interviewed said he had almost 5 years waiting on that list and since then no one has giving him a call. What I’m trying to say is that the problem is way to big and has gotten out of handle.
