I could easily integrate my communications class with my wicked problem for class. Crime will take a lot of listening. If I can retain information better it will help my group out a lot because I would pick up things they would forget or did not pick up. Listening not only helps with retaining more information but being able to be empathetic and accepting. The best test to see if my listening skills are improving will to be talking to the people actually committing crimes and their reasoning behind it. Listening class and my wicked problem will be a great integration.

Groupmates

I have active groupmates unlike many other groups where there is usually that one person that ghosts all the ways a person could try to get in contact with him/her. We usually come up with a great idea then move on never dwelling or arguing with it. Everyone in the group got terrific interviews. For the final presentation, we will have a tri-fold poster with great organizing and focusing on Crime. We have yet to meet up but we keep in contact through text on a group message. For example, we talked about everything about the poster’s whereabouts last night through the group message.

Interview

WiP Community Interview

In this assignment, you will dig into the complexity of the WiP you selected. You may do this either through a site visit or electronic/phone interview with somebody connected to your WiP. This person may be part of a community group, a researcher, a person impacted by the issue personally, a city leader etc.

This form provided some suggested questions and a place to record responses. You are also welcome but not required to create your own questions (see #7 below).

Date of interview: _____11/_1/_2016_________________

  1. What do you see as the main issues surrounding this WiP?

“I feel that I see a bunch of deprived type of adolescent males” “The policing strategies

put in placed is what’s keeping this city in check” (Austin has the 3rd lowest amount of violent crime.

  1. What are the different ways that this problem impacts the Austin? (ex. community, citizenry, environment, and economy)?

“I believe crime has a heavy influence on neighborhoods. It’s become a mentality to adolescents to flock toward that way” “It also creates a barrier between people with different cultures” “Citizens are top priority which means both sides. Nobody wants to harm or get harm.”

  1. What do you know about the history of this WiP? How does this problem fit in to Austin’s past and present?

“I feel crime is definitely is something that is now becoming something heard. I mean people weren’t that concerned about most topics until a majority of people wanted help or understand”

  1. In your view, what makes this problem so complex?

It is hard to see what strategies need to be enacted because every city is different. There also a needs to be a rework with the amount of time people serve. Just a little bit more until its balanced. People try to solve these types of problems from the outside making it look harder but create some small ideas inside and watch it multiply.”

  1. Who are the different stakeholders involved in this WiP?

“in a way everyone is connected to crime in one way directly or indirectly.”

  1. What strategies and solutions for dealing with this WiP have been tried? What were the successful elements? The challenges?

“I would say Austin tries to keep solving crime before it becomes out of hand so people not stress or worry about crime as much making less crime in itself. Successful elements about the police department is the spread of policemen on the clock going”

  1. Record other questions and responses below.

How do you feel about my topic?

“I feel it too broad and that you need to become more focused in exactly what your trying to say for crime like do you care more about policing strategies or how to solve crime in another way. I understand your questions were very more concentrated on that policing strategy”

I learned a great deal from this interview with the Austin Community College department chairman for criminal justice and also former police officer. The data I have points in couple of directions I can go to into this project. I have to understand maybe one more interview to make the project even better than just with one interview.
