South Congress Trip #3

For our final Gestalt project on South Congress, I decided to look at other forms of art found on the street. I noticed that many of the stickers were repeated throughout the entire street so I took a closer look around me. I noticed that art can be found in the simplest and most common objects. For example, the Austin Motel sign is a popular tourist attraction because there is a beauty to the shape and color of the sign. The stairs in the Austin Motel were decorated with beautiful flowers and colors, yet I always just saw stairs. The flowers were bright and colorful in contrast with the gray pieces of art found behind them. On the sidewalk, there are signs which are easily ignored by the public even though they are everywhere. Lastly, the “corrupt” sticker directly relates to my initial trip as a piece of art which makes a statement about problems in the world today. This final trip for this project reminded me that art is everywhere, we just need to open our minds.
