Visu Gestalt Photos
Considering the elements of Gestalt for my photographs was much harder in theory than it was in actually practice, once out in the field it was easier to see the concepts in a real life setting. From there it was about framing and composing images to highlight the strongest element.
The first image demonstrates the similarity between the shapes of the leaves painted on the fence as well as the law of past experience that the designs on the fence are actually leaves.
The image of the man holes on the sidewalk uses the law of common fate to draw a line along the holes to form an eye line for the viewer in combination with the lines of the curb and the line of shops. The man holes themselves show the law of similarity that groups them together to form that line, had they been different there would not be as strong of movement throughout the image.
The third image with the guy taking a photo through the dumpster shows containment within the side of the dumpster that I am on and then a tighter containment within his side of the dumpster. In addition, the contrast between the red of his shirt and the green of the dumpster draws the viewers attention to the subject.
With this image there is a strong sense of balance between the rocks of the street and the rocks bordering the street. They are are connected by the flower as the centerpiece to create an element of symmetry in the photo.
This image of the door to the annex demonstrates the concept of closure and proximity because of how closely cropped on the door face the image is. The image focuses on a fraction of the door but the mind still understands what the rest of the door looks like based on what is shown here, same with the design of the pseudo-sign.
The mural itself in this image shows similarity that forms a pattern creating an element of continuity and movement throughout the photo. With the air conditioning machine as the focal point of the photograph it add another layer of activity to the image that makes it more interesting rather than had the image just been of the mural.
