SKILLS INVENTORY
Asking myself the following:
- My greatest strengths in _____Drawing__I____ include: precition, perceverance, hardworking attitude, and will to learn.
- For greater success in this course, I need to: work more.
Computer skills:
- My computer skills include: well, this actually doesn’t apply to my class, because we do not use computers, but I can say that it is useful that I know how to find some extra material about the drawing techniques we are working on.
- I still need to learn: Perhaps learn how to use a tablet pad and how to draw directly on the computer, specially applying the drawing techniques learned in class.
Research & writing skills:
- My greatest strengths as a researcher/writer include: I love researching and I love writing, so it comes kind of natural.
- I need to work on these aspects of research and writing: Be more focused, because I tend to go beyond what I am expected to, ending in a much longer research thant I should have done (but because I love researching and developing my knowledge, it actually works for me).
- I learn best & accomplish most when: I stopped thinking about how to do the research/writing and I started just doing it. I learned this is the best way for me to work when I was 14.
ACTION PLAN
Choose one class that you are struggling with or are not doing as well as you could.
Now make a list of 10 ways you could improve your performance in this class.
Actually I am not struggling in any class, so I do not have anything to write in this sense. But I can say what I did to improve in my Art History I with Dr Brantl when I was taking her class (which I struggle with the for the first three to four weeks).
-Remember to be prepared for classes (and be prepared to prove you are prepared)
-Do not miss any class (unless necessary)
-Communication is a MUST (ask/answer the teacher)
-Feel free to express during class (it is a safe environment, use it)
-Read/watch videos/talk about the topics also outside of class assignments
-Work ahead of time (unexpected things may occur)
-Bring assignments on time
-Relate topics to other classes (that way you make connections and learn for more than just one class at a time)
-Put the important things on the calendar WITH your other classes (never think of classes separately)
-Multitasking can be good sometimes, but DO NOT PUSH IT! Give time to what you have to work on, then work on another thing
This is actually a variation of Dr Bantl’s List to Success (God bless her!). I learned from her that this formula works for every class and every teacher. USE IT!
