Bill Kennedy’s work is abstract photography. He uses photoshop to manipulates the pictures he has taken and some are recognizable while others are not. Each piece that he makes is so unique that he will be unable to recreate any of them as he has a long process that also depends of the flow of the photo through the manipulation. I have never seen any type of work like his and even though they are not always recognized as something literal, they are always visually interesting and very beautiful to look at.
Hollis Hammonds does a lot of sculptures and illustrations that relate to storms or harsh weather as well as referencing a house fire that happened when she was 15. Her sculpture works consist of a collection of objects that represents how she feels that many people can be too materialistic and her dislike for consumerism. She has done a lot of work for galleries and created within the gallery space. While many of her works are based on the house fire, the subject never gets tired as she creates many different ways to represent it, as a sculpture with a cluster of objects to represent fire, illustration collaged with projection and many other illustrations. She is a very skilled illustrator of landscapes and objects.
Alex Robinson enjoys representing minimalism in her artwork and believes in the relationship to the land or where she is. She finds the beauty in things even when it seems that there is nothing. She uses layers of materials and linear drawings to figure out where to take the piece. Her artwork and favoritism of minimalism makes me think that she likes to focus on the simplicity of the world rather than the complicated details.
Tammie Rubin sculpts with ceramics and favors cones and roundish shapes. She adds a lot of texture to her sculptures so people will want to be up close with her art rather than distancing themselves from it. She likes to create something that exists and then mix it with something that does not exist. Her works give off an unsettling feeling, but also have a hint of familiarity. Her sculptures are very colorful and with the different uses of texture give me a sort of playful feeling to them.
Joe Vitone is a photographer that favors negatives (black and white photos). The work he showed today involved ranching culture which included families, landscapes and cattle. His pictures are very detailed and well done.
I don’t have a plan that spans to 5 years, but I hope by then I will have graduated with a bachelor in arts and have improved my illustration skills. By then I hope to have a store to take commissions so that I can make money in addition to whatever job I will have.
