Summary:

Students will go through this interactive presentation about the food chain. They will move their mouse over the key terms in a food chain and learn more about each one. Once they have reviewed the terms, they will select a habitat and complete the food chain.

Instructional Strategy:

After completing the food chains, they will then create their own. Students will choose decomposers, producers, and consumers and make their own drawing. Their food chain will be interactive and made for other students to put together. They will leave blanks and have cut outs of the decomposers, producers and consumers. Then students will trade food chains and complete the different food chains. This activity will give students more practice and a better understanding of the key terms.

  1. I think the interactive site is a great way to learn. It’s a visual display, but also has text to reinforce. I’m curious to know what the teacher’s role is in this lesson. Will you do anything before they use the website?

  2. The website was really cool. I loved that it had different activities for the students. There was a link for games about the food chain and I really loved that. Games in learning, even just for students to play alone, is really cool. I think it’ll make them more intrigued to learn. I also love your lesson. Allowing them to create their own food chain is great. It allows them to use their creativity. I also love that they can switch with their peers. It makes it more fun when they can interact with each other and show the different ideas and food chains they’ve created. Great job! I loved it.
