Mapping Project: Artifact Map (personal geography)

For this project, it was also important to begin with the definition of the thing we were going to create: map. It is important to understand what the thing you’re creating actually does not only for you, but everyone around the world. One interesting thing I learned during this point of the project was how much power the designer has when it comes to creating maps. Everything that the viewer sees is what the designer wants them to see. This spreads to many aspects of design, if not all. We have a lot of power in terms of the viewers thought process when looking at design. After we got past the definitions we began to create a map that shows our “personal geography”. What I decided to create was a map that showed all the things my four cats do throughout the day, and mapping that out. Of course, seeing that all the cats are indoor cats, there were four main places they visited throughout the day, also known as the “node”.
