Hopefully you’re changing your lifestyle because you want to positively impact the planet and save the environment, or maybe you just want to save money, whatever it is write it down so that you can look back on this for motivation.

Get rid of single use items first

Most of our waste comes from single use items like plastic utensils, paper napkins, to go containers, plastic trash bags, and other items so just slowly start to eliminate the use of those items. If you really pay attention, this is where most of your waste is coming from.

Use what you already have

Remember that you don’t need to buy all new items in order to be zero waste, you can make so many things using what you already have at home. For example you probably already have some mason jars laying around in your cabinets that can be used to store food. Old shirts can be made into reusable bags or used for cleaning. The possibilities are endless with creativity in mind.

Buy previously owned items first

Before making the decision to buy brand new items, go ahead and visit your local thrift stores like GoodWill to check out what they have. Not only will you find cool, unique items but it will also be a lot cheaper than buying new. Also, if you buy second-hand you’re keeping things from going to the landfill!

Be patient and stay consistent

In the beginning everything can seem overwhelming and difficult but remind yourself why you are doing this in the first place and that will keep you motivated. Be patient with yourself and remember to stay consistent. You can do this!
