Chances are, you went out to your grocery store and stocked up on ingredients and food during the COVID-19 pandemic. You also might have more food and ingredients than you realize. Here are some tips to help you organize your kitchen during the pandemic:
Keep the same food and ingredients together.
Sort the spices, sides, and main meal together so you can choose what you want to eat at a quick glance instead of roaming different cabinets to find what you need.
Throw out the food and ingredients.
This is a great time to do the “smell” test on anything that may be or close to being expired. If it smells funky? Throw it out.
Throw out anything that has been dented or opened and never closed.
If there is anything that is close to the expiration date then make sure you make a reminder to use those ingredients the next day or the day after that.
Put it in glass or plastic.
Once you open a container or a package of food, try to repack it in a glass jar or a reusable plastic container for future use. Using plastic and glass also reduces air, water, and land pollution!
Disinfect!
The most important tip of all during this time is to wipe everything clean with a disinfecting wipe or spray. You want to be careful and be cautious, you don’t know who has been packing up your groceries or where they have been. So it’s best to be on the safe side to wipe down everything that you just bought as well as the food and ingredients that have been in your kitchen for a long period of time.
