VISU 1311 Blog Post The Way Things Go

The Way Things Go is an interesting Rube Goldberg machine. Each part is extremely important to the piece afterwards, and everything is necessary for this machine to work. It is set up to operate through not just the everyday objects themselves, but also fire, chemicals, and time itself.  The process for the machine was likely… extremely hard to perfect. It’s similar to the gigantic domino displays that take forever to complete. However, some of those occasionally have parts that don’t work, resulting in still standing pieces, which doesn’t follow the sequence of the rest of the falling dominoes. With this machine, it requires the cooperation of fire, sparks, time, gravity, and many more to work. It would be incredibly hard to try and fine-tune it because of this. The artist would have to produce more of the exploding and burning materials. Some of the objects are even destroyed in the process, making it much more amazing.
