The objective of the lesson is to describe how events and processes that occur during ecological succession can change populations and species diversity. Students first took notes on the subject matter and then explored the content with a game-based activity. A game board was used as the scaffold for the activity and each student represented a different plant species at their table. The game cards dictated the success and failures of each species based on different examples of primary and secondary succession. Students moved through the game board and was then asked to evaluate the activity with a worksheet assessment.
