This assignment called for us to make a pamphlet for the annual Fulbright Conference in Washington, DC. I chose on the colors blue and green because Fulbright is an organization all about being a global foundation that recognizes scholars anywhere from sciences to the arts. Fulbright deals with international affairs and promotes global understanding, so I felt blue and green were the right color combo for this pamphlet. I chose the black and white picture of the cherry blossoms because they are a trademark of Washington, DC – where the convention was held this year.

It was a difficult task, taking the extended amount of information that had to appear in the book and make it appear legible as well as visually appealing. Countless hours were spent organizing information, maps, names, and pictures – and I think most of my time was devoted to this.

Overall I learned a tremendous amount from this project and label it one of my most difficult projects in the course of this major. Although mine wasn’t chosen for the final cut, I was proud of the final product. I learned so much about the “nitty gritty” side to graphic design. I advanced my ability to make grids, choose appropriate fonts, really get confident in the use of hierarchy, and incorporate all the attributes I had previously learned from my gdes classes into one project. Collectively, it was the project the really forced me to push myself and advance my overall design skill in the long run.
