South Congress Part 1 Project Reflection

Because I am most comfortable photographing people, I found this project challenging. I am very picky when it comes to the content of my artwork, so it was hard for me to decide what I wanted to take pictures of. I always want to avoid cliches. I chose my favorite photos from this project and gave them each a little caption to share what inspired me…

1. The first photo shown was taken next to a sidewalk on South Congress. There were a lot of plants growing off the side of a restaurant porch and I noticed how beautiful and lush it was. I also liked the colors.

2. The next photo was also taken on the sidewalk of South Congress. I find the vegetation in Texas really fascinating.

3. This is the Koi Pond in the garden at Hotel San Jose. I thought the colors of the water, the fish, and the lily pads were really beautiful together. The reflections off the water were also interesting.

4. Another sidewalk photo… A small tile mural under an arch of greenery. The touch of red and yellow inspired me to take this photo.

5. The colors and stripes on this building inspired me to take this photo. I think the sky turned out to look really cool.

6. I was inspired to take the last photo because I thought the pretty green plants next to the graffiti tagged wall was ironic.

I found it challenging to take a well composed photo out on the street with little inspiration. The photos shown are my favorites because I think they are the some of the most well composed of the batch. I also noticed a theme of plant life in my pictures, which may be something I will continue focusing on for the duration of this project.  Next time I will try not to stifle my creativity by concentrating too hard on the content of my photos.
