Symbol Methodology
The symbols went through multiple iterations and stages before the final critique. In the beginning, I was tasked with choosing words that I could center my symbol making on and I chose an overarching word that applied to all of the symbols I created. Environments were my main theme and I decided that they encompassed the natural world, outer space, and even the human face. With each batch of symbols, I gradually turned them into more abstract and non-representational marks that conveyed my theme. The three final symbols were mashups of previous symbols that I had created. I cut and rearranged the vectors so that they melded together into one cohesive symbol that had echoes of the originals. I based the majority of my form making on hand drawings that I scanned into illustrator and I feel that I ended up with more organic shapes that I otherwise would not have been able to create spontaneously in illustrator.
