VISU 1100 Blog Post #7

Nick Swift was the first presenter. He is an Art alumni and explained how he created his business and how different kinds of artists helped. I found his presentation helpful in giving examples of different kinds of jobs that are art related that make decent amount of money. He gave me some ideas on what kinds of fields I might be interested in after college.

Rebecca Marina was the second presenter. She is a Photocomm alumni and she is a gallery director at Pump project. She gave some good advice on taking all the internships you can get so that you can find out what you’re interested in. She also made me aware of the different volunteer programs in Austin that are art related.

Alex Roka was the third presenter. He is a Graphic Design Alumni and he talked about his experience in editorial and working GDD&M. His presentation was helpful in giving me examples of different projects a person in the graphic design field might work on. He also gave an opportunity to internship.

Taylor Browning was the last presenter. She is an Art alumni and she works at Art Space in San Antonio. Her advice was to study abroad and to take internships. Her presentation was also helpful in informing me about Art Space which was a place I didn’t know about.

  1. Who did you most relate to? and why?

I related most to Rebecca Marina because I also have an interest in curating.

  1. Who surprised you? and why?

Nick Swift surprised me the most because even though he was an art major he opened up his own business with his wife instead of pursuing a career in the arts world.

  1. What was the most valuable piece of advice you heard today?

The most valuable piece of advice I heard was to take as many internships as possible to find out what you’re interested in pursuing.
