Blog Post #4
Part 1:
Rachel, a studio art major, didn’t talk much about her art and instead gave advice for art majors. I really found her advice on going out to museums and looking at art was really helpful and sensible. I also agreed with her on that we should be making work outside of class assignments.
Caelan, a studio art major, also didn’t talk much about her art and instead gave advice. Her advice was pretty much similar to Rachel’s advice. She talked about a few places we could go to view art and told us to get to know our professors better so that we can go to them for help.
Shelby, a graphic design major, talked about her art. I liked how she mentioned that her and her friends ran a blog for the summer and just created work to post on the blog. The way she talked about her interests and inspiration also was very enlightening.
Paul, a graphic design major, talked about his work. I liked that he showed examples of some of the posters and designs that he did for school functions. He also brought up some events and clubs we could join that would connect us to professional graphic designers.
Crissy, a photo-communications major, showed us a little of her own work. It was nice to see how her website was set up. I also liked how she talked about herself being published and traveling around the world to take photographs.
Juliana, a photo-communications major, gave some good advice. Her advice on getting internships was great. The one thing that I found the most educational was when she was talking about how her and her friends opened up their own gallery after forming a group where they critiqued each others work. I thought her advice on making yourself responsible for making work outside of assignments was very helpful.
Part 2:
Shadow http://www.discovershadow.com
I chose this website because it not only was about something I was interested in, but also had a easy-to-use and simple design. You basically scroll down the site and read each excerpt they have explaining their app. They have small animations and the text is easy to read and pleasant to look at. I found this site compelling because of its simplicity and its intuitiveness.
Ink & Spindle http://inkandspindle.com
I chose this website because of the mute or pale colors and its fluidity. This website is dedicated to custom textiles and so there are plenty of pictures that all are well photographed and pleasing to the eye. You scroll down on this website too and there are nice animations throughout telling the shop’s story. There is also a simple bar where there are different pages you can go to on the site. This website was compelling to me because of its simplicity and its animations.
We Are Telegraph http://www.wearetelegraph.com
I chose this website because of the colors and the typeface it uses. This website also scrolls down and has a small hovering sidebar that you can click on if you do not want to scroll. The text is easy to read and well aligned and the yellowy tones of the website give it a warm feeling. Its overall a very pleasing and inviting website that is simple to use.
Arko http://www.arko.co.nz
I chose this website because of its bold title and its intuitiveness. The black against the white really makes the title of the website stand out and easy to read. The cycling photographs go by at a nice pace and the entire site is very minimalist.
