Visual Studies Seminar blog #3

Veronica Winters is an artist who has been one of my favorite contemporary artists for many years. She is an inspiration for much of my work, as her use of vibrant color and work that often contains colored pencil and oil paint illustrations of glass jars, fruit, and is quite fascinating to me. As The Collegian says, “Winters portraits tend to capture ordinary moments & emotions that are often overlooked.” via. Her artwork often depicts ordinary objects and subjects, such as sea shells, portraits, and flowers. In this article, Winters states that “[she thinks her] art was always a lot more about communication than inspiration.” and I believe that her artwork perfectly reflects that. I have never seen a still life that feel just as lively as a painting depicting a scene filled with people going about their day, and her work expertly communicates that even the ordinary can be extraordinary.
