Blog Post #3

I chose Michelle Pier as my artist for this assignment. Michelle Pier is an artist who is a native of Guam and was a victim of domestic abuse. She watched her abuser go to prison for his crime and moved to California, where she excelled in her art. She grew from struggling to care for her children with multiple part time jobs to being known now as a professional artist about to open her first studio. I look up to her as the best example of someone from a small island being able to grow into a well known person with her own skills. Despite her art gaining fame in California, she never forgot about her heritage and her art shows this mindset. Her work follows this heritage and has the feeling of Guam and our culture. The fact that she has gotten to where she is now without losing track of her heritage is inspiring to me.
