By: R. Jenkins
Earth Day is only 2 days away! If you don’t have anything planned yet, here’s some ideas! It is important to teach children the importance of earth day and getting involved in the community. It is also a great reason to get up, get outside, and get active. These ideas are based around Austin, Texas but would be great for any area as well.
Take a Hike!
Taking a hike is a great way to get outdoors. If weather permits, you could go swimming at a near by watering hole as well! Be sure to pack a lot of water, safety kit, and fully charge your phone. This allows children to see nature and explore the world around them. If you are local to the Austin, Texas area like we are here are some good hiking trails for kids!
The Twin Falls and Sculpture Falls via Barton Creek Green Belt is great for kids! It is a 3.2 mile round trip hike. You can bring dogs as well!
The Barton Creek Green Belt is another good option for kids. While it is a 13 mile round trip hike, it takes about four and a half hours to complete. This is great if you are looking for something longer.
If you are looking for a short trip, the St. Edward’s Green and Red Loop would be a great option. It is only about 2 miles round trip and takes about 50 minutes to complete, minus adventuring time. Here, you can find cacti and a little creek at the end!
Thrills!
Do you care for children that seek more thrill? Sounds like zip lining would be great for them! Lake Travis Zipline Adventure offers guided tours with 5 different zip lines over Lake Travis. They require reservations, so be sure to reserve fast. They also offer the equipment, transportation, water, and other fun activities included in your tour. This is the fastest and longest zipline in Texas so you don’t wanna miss out on this!
Fun Parks!
Our last option is some popular parks around Austin, Texas. The one at top of our list is Pease Park, as seen in photo. There, they have a interactive water feature to cool down at, a state of the art playground or a tree house observatory pod! This would be a great place to have a picnic and allow you’re child to roam all of the fun options that Pease Park offers. Another great option is Zilker Park and the Zilker Botanical Gardens which are close to each other so would be great for a one day trip. Although, we highly suggest Pease Park for kids!
Now that you have three great options in or around Austin, Texas, what are you waiting for? Start planning your Earth Day plans today!
