Living Sustainably on a College Budget
Now we’ve posted a few Sustainable Swaps for grocery shopping, bathrooms, kitchens and more, but we want to introduce how college students can achieve these sustainable swaps with a budget. While many eco-friendly products can be pretty expensive, there are other ways to be sustainable with the college student budget.
Flamingos Vintage Pound
When shopping for clothes, go to thrift stores! It is so much fun to peruse the clothing in thrift stores because there are so many hidden gems. One of my favorite thrift stores is the Flamingos Vintage Pound Austin. At this thrift store, you pay by the pound! You grab a basket, find some awesome clothes, and the associates will weigh your findings and give you an awesome price. I paid five dollars for 5 T-shirts! As much as I enjoy shopping in malls and purchasing clothes that haven’t been used by someone else, I feel better knowing that I am able to reuse the clothes that I found at thrift stores.
UT ReUse Store
Another cool place in Austin to shop at for college students is the University of Texas Surplus ReUse Store. There, students can find the things they need for classes or life on campus like furniture, notebooks, kitchen supplies and much more, for decent prices!
Goodwill
And finally the one place everyone and their dog knows about, Goodwill. Goodwill is a great place to look for everything, clothes, kitchen supplies and appliances and more. Goodwill does an amazing job at pricing their items with decent and affordable prices. I walked out with 6 mugs for fifteen dollars!
Now that you know of a few places where you can find the things you need at affordable prices, I encourage you to explore more thrift stores and enjoy the experience of reusing on a college budget!
