I think this project was pretty difficult since we had to keep all key information on the screen the entire time. It proved challenging to handle since there were many layers I had to keep track of during the assignment. I did decide to redo the entire project about a week before it was due since I was ultimately unhappy with the version I was working on before. In the end, I liked my redesign more, it was simpler and didn’t have the same constraints that formed from the style of my first version.
Advanced Typography: LATCH Exercise

These series of videos were somewhat difficult at first since it had been a while since I had touched AE. After I got used to the software again it was easier but Tuan did give some styling suggestions after looking at my completed work that could have improved my assignment better. I think these LATCH structures were useful in understanding how movement of typography is very important in conveying meaning and how typeface choice can also change a message. There are a few things I need to fix like speed, timing and direction of movement.
Graphic Design II: Identity Series
This assignment was to show who we were based on the items we carry. It was a good exercise in understanding how it’s not just the items but the color, shape, texture, etc that are all clues in deciphering someone’s personality. It was interesting to see everyone’s backpack posters and how different or similar we were.
Graphic Design 1: Personal Geography
1. Artifact Map- Map of our route from home to work.
2. Perceptual Map- Sensory map of a meal.
3. Cognitive Map- Flowchart of decision making.
For this assignment, we were given little guidelines which gave everyone artistic liberty to interpret the project. I enjoyed creating my Perceptual Map and Cognitive Map the most, I feel as if they were the most successful of the three. I think the Cognitive Map shows my improvements with using Ai and my development of design.
Graphic Design I: Symbol Methodology
For this assignment, we were to come up with a concept idea; Change, and think of three subcategory ideas within the concept: Catalysts, Reaction, and Outcomes. Of these subcategories, we were to think of three ideas that encompass them.
My subcategories and ideas:
- Catalysts:chance, death/life/life cycle, love
- Reaction: fight, flight, compliance
- Outcome: positive, negative, stagnant
We brainstormed and created many iterations that helped with the creation of the final three symbols. Overall, I feel as though this project was successful and showed me the importance of creating drafts and brainstorming.
Graphic Design 1: Illustrator Excersice: Ducky
This assignment was just a quick recap on how to use Ai and freshen up how to use the basic tools. It was simple project in the beginning of the semester.
Image Methodology: Critical Mass
The assignment was to take what we had learned in George’s class throughout the semester and apply it to make whatever type of short animation we wanted to.We all thought of an idea and started creating a story board for it. My idea was to convey the idea of reincarnation and karma in a comedic way. This assignment was the most stressful yet fun one I have ever done so far while attending St. Edwards. I really enjoyed the freedom George gave us to create whatever we wanted yet helped us develop the process of coming up with ideas. The project was difficult and challenging because it was the first semester I had been introduced to AE so I was still getting used to the software.
Image Methodology: Scales: Constructivism
These two short animations were an introduction to learning the Ae, we took apart the images in Ps and then imported them onto Ae. After, we learned basic things like anchor points, rotation, and how to place key frames.
Image Methodology: Material Studies
Material studies video:
Word stop motion video:
These two videos were my first experience with using Ae, we kept it really simple for this assignment, simply just using it for stop motion animations. The word animation project I had fun with, we were to choose a word and put it in an environment that best explained the word using stop motion photography. We then imported our photos onto Ae to create the video.
Image Methodology: Scales: Dada
From left to right: Abstraction, Name, Rainbow
For me, this assignment was one of my least successful ones. I wasn’t too sure I grasped the idea of the project but it was fun creating these collages and learning how to use a scanner with Photoshop.
