My 3-dimensional mixed media paintings are an experiment that began with the intention to free my influence of society’s oppressing systems. Since the beginning development of this project, I have found the works to be a representation of the war in my mind of the reality of the physical world and the search for my inner self, the possibility of consciousness. The pieces’ illusionistic imagery are of the most geometrically simple and perfect forms found anywhere in the universe, whether they are spherical forms representing planets, the contour of part of a body, or giant exaggerated crystals and fractals. Using materials and paint to give a physical, touchable structure pulls together materiality and illusion, the physical reality and the possibilities of other dimensions and universes…raising the questions that I think of most: What is life? Why are we here? What is our individual purpose?
Each piece is still its own experiment as I dive in, reminding myself that I know nothing and open myself to discovery. In this way, I see my process paralleled to re-birth and each piece as a new experience that will hopefully bring me one step closer to the answers I am looking for… at least within myself.
