DIS Copenhagen – Book Fair Poster Competition
Graphic Design 3 – Book Project
Graphic Design 2 – Adventure 2
My first set of designs were to embody the sensation of delight one might feel walking around West 6th street; experiencing the architecture and the food. I originally had one symbol that combined each item presented but broke them down to create three separate buttons tied together with color and recurring elements such as the white circle pattern. The bright green enhances the each scene with energy and contrasts with the muted pink creating a sense of delight.
The second set of designs I left as sketches and enhanced their color on Photoshop to create stickers. The sketches create and capture the organic feeling of the Shoal Creek running trail reflecting the rough textures of the trees. I wanted to morph together the idea of drawing and nature to represent the tree art found along the trail and represent the feeling of wonder.

I designed this video with its possible usage in mind, in this case I thought of how it could work as a weather app or computer program. I created different symbols such as the umbrella, jacket, sunglasses, and book with the coffee to portray the type of day it might be based on an item one might use on a rainy day or sunny day, rather than producing expected weather symbols like a cloud or sun. However, I did have some trouble producing an icon for a cloudy day and ultimately produced objects that one enjoys on a cloudy day which contracts with the accessory elements of the other icons. And finally the contrasting color scheme reflects the colors of the sun and sky without including them.
Graphic Design 2 – Adventure 1
I decided to structure this poster using the backpack as the center point due to its size and use, to hold all of the items surrounding it. The layout allowed also for a diagonal alignment of large pieces from the bottom left to the top right arranging items both on size and purpose, in a way. Although the light source for some items is uneven, I was able to act as if light was flooding in from the top right with the lighter objects arranged in that corner, as if floating in open space towards the light.

This assignment was a great opportunity to experiment and learn new skills on After Effects. I felt improvement even from the first video, the one with the weather elements, to the last, the one with the holidays. For each video we had to incorporate a level of LATCH I used that to test different techniques. The motion blur in the alphabetical to emphasize the words and their order in the alphabet in a sort of abstract way. For location and time, the holiday video, I attempted to play with the different ways to move an object through the X, Y, and Z dimensions/planes. I felt a major improvement over all from the Allegory video and confident to create my weather report video.
Image Methodology – Allegory Video

My original inspiration for this video was from the well-known children’s book If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff. I decided to stick with my sketches and bring them to life in this short film rather than vectorize them. This was my first time using After Effects yet I think that the storybook feeling and subtle motion I was able to incorporate from my minimal skills so far worked well together in a stylistic way.
Image Methodology – Pop Art or Combine (Kim)
For this project we were given a prompt and asked to create a visual representation with scanned items manipulated and arranged to portray our response. I designed a response to how I and in what way I sleep. The symmetrical approach makes the colorful cupcake wrappers look as if they are exploding out of the center of the book mirroring how my hyperactive dreams consume me. The colors also create a nice balance to the black and white colors of the print in the background and enhance the boldness of the statement being cradled in the center. I originally had more scanned items and text but it made the design feel too chaotic when most dreams are more subtle and sleep is more rewarding and should not feel like chaos.
Image Methodology – Material Studies
As seen in my process book, I also experimented with mini umbrellas and balloons but ultimately liked how I could stack the toy soldiers on top of each other and how the act of the soldiers holding each other up represented how they must help, protect, and support one another in battle. I used this concept to set the stage for the display of my word and embraced the patriotic theme and idea of war. The small size of the figures was overpowered with large outside natural elements so I set up a diorama. This set up also allowed me to capture the shadows of the stacked figures to accentuate how they were hoisting each other up, an issue that I struggled with initially.
